Some Totally Awesome 80's Costume Ideas by Darla

Trends come and go and tend to be repeated. The trends of the '80s are back in full force. Nostalgia for this time period is ever increasing. So this Halloween have some fun with '80s costumes. You can honor your favorite '80s musicians such as A Flock of Seagulls, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran and U2 (some do not remember they were popular even then!) If you like to think of yourself as an original, you can always create your own '80s character.

Maybe you enjoyed The Cure or Robert Smith. Goth may be an option you would want to consider. Break out the white face makeup, heavy eyeliner, and black lipstick as you listen to "Just Like Heaven." Also, one of the most popular costumes that you may like to consider is a Michael Jackson costume. You can create a look from one of your favorite Michael Jackson videos.

If you were a Cyndi Lauper fan, you will have fun recreating her look. Make sure you get a number of necklaces, plenty of bangles and a lot of bright colors. Bring out your inner Cyndi with big hair and two-tone hair color. Add a vintage skirt to a strapless dress for a really authentic look.

Many girls will remember the spandex black miniskirts that were so popular. You can add a lacey satin, white top to recreate the bad girl image that was popular in high school. Also, do not forget the big hair and the banana hairclip along with the neon lipstick and green or blue eye shadow to make the look authentic. For the guys the '80 look is simple. Just make sure you have a bandana tied around your head, black boots and white t-shirt, and work jeans. For an added touch simply tuck a baseball cap in your back jeans pocket.

If you threw out your old '80s attire, no need to worry. You can find great '80s costumes online or in vintage shops. You will be able to find great Uptown Girl costumes in purple or fuchsia. If you like Madonna, you can enhance the look with awesome cross chain sets. The Maddona costume is an essential 80's look. You will even find great wigs, skirts and bustier tops to pull together a Cyndi Lauper look.

There are so many amazing '80s icons to choose from. You can find wild Tina Turner wigs and if you have great legs you can strut like the Diva herself. You and your friends can even recreate an '80s metal band look. You will find plenty of sleeveless shirts, spandex leggings and leather pants. If you are really daring, you can even find many items to recreate a Boy George look. You have so many choices to create a fun ' 80s costume for any costume party and Halloween.

I love costumes and the eighties. 80's costumes are my favorite.

The Night of the Howling Horrors by Betty Locke

Halloween is almost here and once again on the night when the grisly ghouls are abroad, at around twilight, small people will be at our door steps peering at us out of slits in ghastly masks and proffering hopeful begging bags and baskets.

"Trick or Treat!" they shout in menacing tones.

We affect an attitude of abject fear and toss some sickly sweet treats on top of the accumulating nauseating candy piles.

The little goblins and ghosts squeal with laughter at having intimidated us into a donation and having fooled us into not having the least suspicion as to their identity, even if we recognize their voices and they live next door.

Eventually, after repeating the scene over and over they go home with loads and loads of tasty but evil tooth destroying, unhealthful refined sugar.

In many cases much of the booty goes uneaten. Parents have been known to throw some of it out. After all, how much confection can a little stomach take?

Halloween is supposed to be fun and we go along with the charade but what a shame to spoil the annual joyful lark by lacing the merriment with poisons.

Apples and other fruit are good alternatives to candy but not in huge quantities so we can't have everyone tossing in apples. Besides that would tend to make the bags very heavy. Also I am sure some would rot before it could be eaten.

WELL SO WHAT? THEY ARE NOT MY KIDS!

In two or three hours, the yearly circus will be all over for another eleven months.

So why should I care if their health and pretty smiles are compromised? I won't be paying their dental bills!

Is it my fault if they develop diabetes at some future date? Of course not! WHY IN THE WORLD SHOULD I CARE?

So who am I kidding? The undeniable indisputable fact is that I DO care!

So because I have concerns about what goes into the bags of other people's kids I admit that for the last few years I have not pitched in a scrap of candy.

Instead I buy cheap toys such as party favors at the dollar store or wherever I can find them. Actually I keep an eye out and collect them all year. A cheap plastic car or ship or plane will at least provide fun for an hour or so before being discarded and will not damage young bodies or generate hyper activity.

A few crayons or a fancy pencil with a feather on the end might cater to the inner artist residing in every child.

A rubber ball, a whistle, a puzzle or a game will provide amusement without causing cavities.

Dangling Bracelets, necklaces or bejeweled plastic tiaras might stoke the imaginations of potential young performers.

At this point I should make it clear that I am not a hundred percent averse to candy. I have been known to enjoy chocolate occasionally. But l think we do kids no favors by shoveling truckloads of sugar down their throats.

Children come already packaged naturally sweet!

Funny And Creative Holloween Custumes For Couples by Harland Spikes

It has been common for couples to dress up as Dracula and his victim. The concept has become very boring. Halloween is a time for surprises and excitement. There is then a need to explore on more ideas on what to choose for Halloween parties. Without you knowing it, there are many options available. This article contains some suggestions regarding on what to portray during Halloween. Hopefully, you can get some fresh ideas to choose from.

These concepts are very easy to make but will surely gain the attention of your family and friends.

1. Bride and Groom - What makes this costume different is by switching roles. The woman would be the one to dress as the groom by wearing tuxedo or a suit. On the other hand, the man will be the bride. He will wear the gown and the heels. There are shops that would let you rent these costumes or may you purchase them at a very low price. You could also play with the colors. The bride does not have to wear white. He can choose bright colors such as red or blue.

2. A Tramp and A Lady - You could also put a twist here. Let the man dress up as the woman again and vice versa. Reversal of roles is very funny and exciting. Your audience will surely be fascinated. It is suggested that the man would show off a lot of baubles and flaunt his killer heels. For the part of the tramp, trousers of bigger side are the most suitable for the costume. Instead of using a belt for holding, use a string.

3. Deceased Husband and Widowed Wife - This one is much easy to achieve. The man only needs to wear something dark preferably black and put a lot of white face paint for him to appear dead. While the wife, she would just have to wear a mourning dress. Make the color black and let her wear a veil in order to conceal her face. It would be good if she would also bring a tissue and let her look as if she is always crying.

4. The Movie Star and Photographer - This concept would entail lesser effort. You could choose who among you will dress as a star. You can simply do that by wearing something outrageous and glamorous coupled with a pair of shades. Perform as if you are really a movie star and retain your popularity among your peers.

The costume of the photographer would be the cameras. He or she could just wear anything plain and simple. But what makes the costume astonishing is the number of cameras. Let it hang around the neck or make it appear that you hind them in your pockets. The photographer also moves from one corner to another, taking pictures not only of the star but for all the people around the party. You could take stolen shots to surprise them.

What is being provided above are just some of the many ideas that you get online. These concepts would surely be a hit and you will gain all the necessary attention you want.

Cheesy Costumes: And The Trend Goes On by Tuleful Apple Lips

Few weeks ago, I attended my niece's school program. It was their school's 10th Foundation day. The event's theme was sort of a 'wonderland'. The children were all dressed up in their own fascinating, sometimes odd costumes and they look very happy. Looking at them, I cannot keep away from thinking. I remember those times of my childhood where I happen to wear a "red flower" costume, combined with the accessories along side of it I somewhat look ridiculous. I can't remember what exact event that was, but I'm sure that I wore the silly costume.

Today, costumes and dressing up are vital parts of festivities. Wearing of costumes can be track down to ancient Babylon, in the time of pharaohs and Kings. In the 21st century, costumes became popular in holidays, especially during Holloween. Halloween has its roots and origins in Ireland and it is widely considered that it dates back to a Celtic tradition of Samhain Eve when it was believed that the links between the living world and that of the dead were at their strongest. The name Halloween comes from the eve of All Hallows' which was what All Saint's Day was called during medieval times.

Children gear up in their selected costumes for their much awaited trick-or treat, and amazingly sometimes they were accompanied by adults. This merely shows that dressing up is not just for children. It was a fact that in today's market more sales are registered on adult costumes than on the traditional children's sector. Another quick soaring trend today is dressing up your pets. Since pets often become family members it's obvious that pets would do costumes for Halloween as well. It is fun to see that pets dressed up as people pretending to be super heroes or as Dracula.

In the end, it really shows that wearing a costume is part of our existence. Sooner or later you will have to wear one. It doesn't matter how stupid or silly you look what matters is the fun and enjoyment that you feel inside it.

The Magic Of Halloween - Part 1 by CD Mohatta

Halloween or Holloween is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31 in most countries. Irish immigrants carried versions of the Halloween tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other coutries followed suit in the twentieth century. It is generally thought that the holiday originated from a Irish holiday known as Samhain, which was celebrated in Ireland and Scotland during harvest time for many many years. The time of year when harvesting was completed and animals were brought from summer pastures to shelter for the winter months was known as Samhain. Fruits, vegetables, grain, and animals, were burnt as gifts to the Gods in big bonfires during Samhain. This was done in the hope of a successful new year. The general belief was that on the Samhain night, dead people could appear on earth and the alive people were able to question the dead about the upcoming year. Some of these spirits were thought as evil and hence people started wearing scary costumes with animal heads to frighten the spirits. They protected themselves in this way.

Samhain is also known as Celtic New Year. November 1st is known as All Saints Day or by the other name - All Hallow's Day. Hallow refers to sainted ones. All Saint's Day is there to celebrate the saints and martyrs of Christian faith. This day was celebrated to diminish the importance of the Celtic rituals and the influence of the druids. Hence the day - 31st october - became known as All Hallow's Eve, or Halloween. The carved pumpkin lit by a candle inside, is one of the most prominent symbols in America for Halloween. It is commonly called a jack-o-lantern.

Common Halloween activities include watching horror movies, visiting haunted houses, trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, wearing costumes, lighting bonfires, costume parties, reading scary stories and similar activities.

Trick Or Treat - Halloween Tradition

Trick or Treat is a Halloween custom. It is the quote said by children who call on houses to solicit gifts at Halloween. In North America, England and Ireland, kids go round to people's houses on Halloween night which falls on october 31st, dressed in some kind of scary costumes, and challenge the inhabitants of the homes with the cry, Trick or Treat? The houseowner then chooses between a trick - where the kids play some prank or practical joke on them - or treat where the houseowner treats the children with sweets or candy or similar halloween treat stuff. The houseowners usually stock up on halloween treats before hand. With increased Tv penetration and exposure, the halloween customs have spread across other parts of Europe and Asia too. In some places, the night associated with trick or treat is also known as beggars night.

The practice of dressing up in costumes and going from one door to other asking for treats on Halloween goes back to many years. Trick-or-treating is similar to the medieval practice of souling, when poor people would go from door to door, receiving food to eat in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day. This tradition originated in Ireland and England and the poor people were called soulers.

Making a Halloween music CD can be fun and rewarding by Daryl Plaza

Making a Halloween music CD can be fun and rewarding

It is easy to create your own Halloween music CD! Halloween is a fun and exciting holiday for many individuals. Carving pumpkins, creating an elaborate costume, decorating the home, and getting the candy bowl all ready is just half the fun! Creating spooky sounds on a CD can really enhance the overall mood of the Halloween holiday.

Spooky sounds and music that is considered to be scary can really set the pace when it comes to this night of spooks and haunts! Here, I will share some information with you on how to create your own Halloween music CD.

The first thing that you need to do in order to create the best CD ever for Halloween, is to go online and locate clips and sounds that are offered on numerous websites. There are many stores that specialize in selling these sounds, while other websites offer them for free. In order to brew up a good stew of spooky sounds and music, you will need to dedicate some time to researching the files that you run across.

If you are having a difficult time coming up with some holloween sounds that you like, there are a couple of websites out there that specialize in this type of music. These include “Classic Halloween Sound Effects”, and even “Halloween Culture Classics”.

Now, you will want to create a playlist in Windows Media Player of the sounds and music that you save to your computer. You can name this “Halloween music CD”, this way it can be easily identified once you are ready to burn the CD of Halloween music.

Now, you will want to be sure that you have the hardware on your computer that is necessary to burn the CD. A basic CD burner is about all that is required if you are using Windows Media Player. If you do not have a burner on your system, you can purchase an external CD/DVD burner at any electronics store for anywhere between $50.00 and $200.00 that will do. External units simply connect to your computer through a USB port.

Now, you will want to determine what type of CD that you need to use to burn the Halloween music. Once you make this determination, purchase the blank media CD and put it in the CD burner. Now, as you look on Windows Media Player, you will see a button that says “Burn”, simply hit this and the playlist will automatically copy to the blank media CD. Once this is done, the CD drive door will open and your Halloween music CD will be ready for you!

Interesting Facts about Halloween by Usharani

WHAT IS HALLOWEEN

Halloween, Hallowe'en, or Holloween is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses", and carving jack-o-lanterns. Irish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century.

To me the whole idea of Halloween seems to be very interesting, the idea as such is on of the craziest idea ever imagined. But I consider this autumn night to be one of the enjoyable holidays of the year. The reason why I find this holiday to be the most enjoyable holiday is not because of the candy perhaps it could also be one of the reason, but the main reason which strikes me is that the whole fun to see everyone dressed in weird costumes. We finally get a chance to celebrate the other spookier side of our life. Bats, vampires, and all the traditional elements create a night which has both the mood of fright as well as laughter. The entire atmosphere of that night is an inexpressible event and the way the kids go for trick or treat, collecting their desired sweets and the adults can throw a party any moment. The entire experience of being extremely crazy to the core .What could be better than this.

THE DIFFERENT NAMES
Another fascinating thing about Halloween is the different names with which it is referred to. There is an alternative spelling with which it is referred to Hallowe’en looks different but exciting yet. Another popular way in which it is referred by the saints is Samhain Pronounced as Sow-in.
In some parts of Ireland they call the celebration as Oiche Shamhna and in some other parts it is referred to as Pooky night. This Pooky night, is referred because it is kept after the name of a mischievous spirits called as puca.
An ethnic group of Britain referred as Celts calls the night as Allantide.

HALLOWEEN TRADITIONS ACROSS THE GLOBE
The various traditions which are followed are almost innumerable. However some of the funny traditions I would like to list are:
In Mexico it is not a long established tradition. However the kids have started the tradition of trick or treat and they have parties with exciting themes for the older crowd.

In Australia and New Zealand the festival doesn’t gain much importance because they consider the festival as an foreign culture import. However as the festival in itself is so interesting many people organize trick o treat for the kids and the candy tradition is frowned upon.
In America single women are told that if they sit in a room with lights off and hold a mirror then they would see their would be husbands photo and if they are going to remain single forever then they would visualize the image of a skull.

Tips to Arrange Holloween Party by Mitch Johnson

Looking for some interesting games for your Halloween party? This article is to guide you to meet your need and your guests need for fun. The games given in the following article works well for all ages. You could give them a choice whether they want to play or not.

The "Pumpkin Carving" contest is always very popular. All the children, big and little, in the party are seated around the room on the floor with papers spread out before them. Each child is furnished with a hollowed-out pumpkin and a knife and told to carve a jack-o-lantern. Mothers and fathers help by suggestions. When the lanterns are finished a lighted candle should be placed in each and the lanterns lined up in a row for decision as to which is entitled to the prize. This is decided by popular applause. Each child may take home his or her own jack-o-lantern.

At our last party, in a secluded corner of the room, was suspended a large iron kettle over a make-believe fire. It had created quite a bit of speculation, but as no one went near it, it was supposedly just a part of the decoration. Just about the time all the guests had forgotten about it, a witch rushed into the room. In a covered basket she had a number of ingredients which were needed for charms. She handed the basket to the hostess and retired to her kettle, muttering.

Each guest was then blindfolded and formed a line. The hostess then explained that all the objects which were in the basket must be passed from guest to guest in the line and finally handed to the witch. It was started off with a hot baked potato which passed quickly from hand to hand amidst sudden exclamations of various kinds. A chestnut burr came next followed by a piece of ice, an old glove filled with mush, a large soup bone, a large peeled grape and an oyster.

The blindfolded guests emitted blood-curdling shrieks as the objects touched their hands. At the end of the line the objects were placed in the kettle and stirred vigorously by the witch while the guests, blindfolds removed, looked into the kettle. When all the ingredients were thoroughly stirred the witch took from the kettle the written fortune of each guest. Halloween is the one night of the year when spirits, according to tradition, roam the earth again and mortals may appeal to them for a glimpse into the future.

At the end of the games big doughnuts were passed on a child's broom handle, accompanied by cider or milk. As an extra treat black-face ice cream was served. This is made by pouring thick chocolate sauce over vanilla ice cream. The eyes, nose and mouth on each serving are marked with tiny mint candies.

Although originally Halloween was a Druid and Roman religious ceremony, in American tradition it is a night of merrymaking, fortunetelling and pranks. Such an opportunity for a good time should not be wasted.
